The fans are painted with scenes of filial piety alternating with scenes of birds and landscapes. Kuninobu is another name of Kano Eitoku (1543-1590), the son of Kano Shoei (1519-1592). There are many fan paintings with the Kuninobu seal, but none is comfirmed as work by Eitoku. The strong drawing on these fans does resemble the dynamic brushwork of Eitoku seen in his paintings of the hermits Hsiu-yu and Ch'ao-fu in the Tokyo National Museum.
