The large trunk with a hinged cover and set on four tapered feet and decorated in raised gold and silver lacquer with phoenixes and paulownia on a nashiji ground, the leaves and branches highlighted with okibirame, the gilt-bronze hardware carved with foliate scroll; interior of trunk lined with brocade; underside of cover lacquered mura-nashiji
