A Pair of Mixed-Metal Vases
Meiji period (late 19th century), engraved signature Dai Nihon teikoku Ishikawa ken Kanazawa doki kaisha sei (Made in Imperial Japan by the Kanazawa bronze company of Ishikawa Prefecture)
The baluster vases with butterfly-form handles and set on bracket feet cast as cresting waves and flush-inlaid in soft-metal with two shaped panels, one vase with morning glories and grasses, and a dragonfly and morning glories, the other vase with autumn grasses and a dragonfly on flowering vines, the neck cast with two sixteen-petal chrysanthemums and a collar of latticework below; golden brown patina with a greenish tinge on the ground
