Lot Essay

Although not conclusively by his hand, there is much about this design that can be attributed to early Knox. It is similar in style to his drawings of vases found in the Silver Studio Archives at the Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture in London. In a sheet of designs from 1899 found in (ed) Martin, S., Archibald Knox, London ArtMedia Press, 2001, p. 57, there is one design in particular that has the same elements found in this Cymric vase. This is reminiscent of Iron Age objects that were sources of inspiration for Knox's earlier work
