It is as if Knox is 'tipping his hat' to C. R. Ashbee with his use of silver strapwork to cradle the glass of this decanter. At the same time, his personalised Celtic knotting, floating on the transparent glass, gives the impression of 'aerial' calligraphy suggestive of his great manuscript illumination from the 1920s.
