He was born near Ibrox, in Govan on 12th December 1900 and prior to joining Rangers in 1919, he played for Maryhill Juniors. His career at Rangers coincided with one of the clubs' most famous trophy-laden periods. He won 12 League Championships; 5 Scottish Cups and appeared in a further 3 Scottish Cup finals. The 1929-30 Season was, without doubt the most memorable, when the club made a clean sweep of all major competitions (see lot 20). He captained his Country and Club on many occasions and made 15 full appearances for the national side, scoring three goals.
