A collection of three of the rare 'small voyages' of the brothers Johann Theodor and Johan Israel de Bry. They were thirteen parts in total, most parts appearing in two editions over a period of 17 years (1598-1615). The whole collection was a highly ambitious project and part of the De Brys' wider interest in exploration and travel. The German edition appeared after the Latin but is considered the rarer of the two, and as the work became ever larger so production order and the distinctions between editions became somewhat blurred. Only one copy with all thirteen parts has appeared at auction in recent years, all other copies, like the present, containing only a number of the total voyages published. The three voyages offered here relate to the travels of Jan Huygen van Linschoten (1563-1611) who was noted for the travels he made in the East Indies, in particular to the Portuguese East Indies. Brunet I 1355-1357.
