An Historical and Geographical Description of Formosa, an Island subject to the Emperor of Japan, London: D. Brown, G. Strahan, W. Davis and F. Coggan, 1704. 8° (192 x 114mm.). Folding engraved frontispiece table of the alphabet, plates numbered 1-16, one unnumbered map. (Margins of frontispiece browned, margins of title trimmed, one folding plate repaired on verso, outer margin closely shaved with a long, clean tear, part of margin of map torn away, map partly laid down and with closed clean tear, pp.33-55 wormed, heavier towards the middle affecting a few letters but sense recoverable, plate 7 with small rusthole, a few light ink stains, mainly marginal spotting.) Modern calf. Provenance: John Dummer (inscription on preface, dated 1835). FIRST EDITION. Lust 237.

Frederik COYETT (1620-1689). 'T verwaerloosde Formosa, Amsterdam: Jan Claesz ten Hoorn and Michiel Pieters, 1675. Small 4° (191 x 152mm.). Engraved title, 7 engraved plates. (Lacking the blank E4, engraved title laid down, *4 supplied in photocopy, a few marginal repairs, evenly browned throughout, marginal thumb-soiling.) Later half calf (extremities rubbed).
