Lot Essay

Located between the towns of Fountainbleu and Melun at the edge of the Seine River, Samois was the site Signac chose for several small oils and almost 200 sketches and watercolors, which were all executed from the fall of 1899 to early 1900 (see M. Ferretti Bocquillon and C. Cachin, Paul Signac: A Collection of Watercolors and Drawings, New York, 2000, p. 44).
