Further details
Born in January of 1894, Nadejda was the oldest daughter of Dimitri Stancioff, a prominent Bulgarian statesman and advisor, and his wife, Comtesse Anna de Grenaud. As a young woman, Nadejda followed into her fathers profession and accompanied him on foreign delegations as his interpreter and secretary. In the turbulent years of the Balkan War, Nadejda and her sisters assisted their mother in the French Red Cross Hospitals. It is quite surprising and unusual that Nadejda was appointed the First Secretary to the Bulgarian Legation in Washington in 1922. At the time she was the first woman diplomat and gained much international press attention. After her 1924 marriage to Sir Alexander Kay Muir of Blair Drummond in Perthshire, Lady Muir, as she became known, retired from her diplomatic career. An accomplished journalist, Lady Muir became a producer for the BBC. Christies is pleased to offer an assortment of jewelry from such a fascinating historical figure.
