COMPARATIVE LITERATURE:
Anna Maria Massinelli, Hardstones, The Gilbert Collection, Philip Wilson Publishers, 2000.
An example signed G. Morelli, Rome, circa 1810 (fig.65, page 156), is in the Gilbert Collection, London. The signature of the snuff box and this lot is probably that of Giovanni Morelli, a noted Piedmontese moasicist, sculptor and intaglio artist. He was also described as a stone carver, who worked on inlaid furniture, candelabra, frames, figurines, birds and floral sculpture.
