The Charioteer of Delphi is one fo the best known ancient Greek Statues, dating from 470 B.C. Cast in bronze, in the 'Severe' style, the austere figure marks the transition from the Archaic geometric conventions to the Classical vision of idealized realism. The figure's face was enlived by the inclusion of other materials, such as copper for the lips and eye lashes, eyes of onyx and the head band of impressed silver. The figure also encapsulated the virtues of Classical Greece, self-discipline and modesty.
