A SOUTHERN EUROPEAN EBONISED SIMULATED TORTOISESHELL PARCEL GILT METAL MOUNTED TABLE CABINET
Late 17th century, probably Bohemian or South German
In three sections, the upper part with mouldings and hinged top enclosing a compartment, with marblised paper, fitted with a later paper lined simulated tortoiseshell architectural interior, with a central panel door applied with putti mask and plaster half columns with a floral etched arched mirror plate (cracked) and surrounded by one short and two longer drawers similarly applied with floral etched mirrored panels within gilt mouldings, enclosed by a pair of ripple moulded panel doors with similar mirror panels to the reverse, the centre section containing a drawer applied with later gilt repousse brass neoclassical figues, on fret bracket feet, the lower part containing two deep drawers, on a moulded plinth base, with some renewed elements and carrying wrought iron to the sides of the upper part
Overall height 54in. (137cm.), 33¾in. (86cm.) wide, 17in. (43cm.) deep
