A REGENCY EBONY-INLAID MAHOGANY REGULATOR

The circular engraved brass dial of regulator format, with outer minute ring and subsidiary hour and seconds rings, signed JM FRENCH, ROYAL EXCHANGE/LONDON, the five pillar movement with deadbeat escapement and strike on bell positioned above the plates, the backplate signed FRENCH/ROYAL EXCHANGE/LONDON, within a Gothic arched hood surmounted by a spire with acorn finial above a rectangular case with Gothic arched glazed door, enclosing two brass weights and a brass and giltwood calibrated pendulum, over a square base, on bracket feet, lacking second hand, bearing a paper label inscribed DICK95911 25P and museum accession label 142.60a

Lot Essay

The movement of the present clock bears the name of Santiago James Moore French of the Royal Exchange, London, who was a freeman of the Clockmaker's Company from 1810-1840.
