Each with a rectangular pierced fret-carved back over a padded seat covered in white and gold embroidery above a carved seatrail over panelled legs joined by a pierced H-stretcher, front feet tipped, one with ink number 1139X, with elm seatrails (2)

Lot Essay

The model of these chairs closely relates to designs by Thomas Chippendale for 'Chinese Chairs' published in the Third Edition of his The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, 1762, No. XXVI.
