The table's elliptical top, displaying a palm-flowered patera medallion, is banded by an 'Etruscan' flowered ribbon-guilloche while its frame displays a bouquet-inlaid tablet. A design for a related satinwood table, with Etruscan-vase tablet features in Messrs Gillow's 1784 Sketch Book (reproduced in L.Boynton, Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, 1995, fig 9). The use of a repeating border design on a deeply contrasting ground, naturalistic floral sprays and husk chains suspended from flowers feature on the work of London cabinet-makers Mayhew and Ince (see Lucy Wood, Catalogue of Commodes, London, 1994, no.27, pp.226-235). The table is en suite with a pembroke table in a distinguished American collection.
