A Thomas Webb & Sons cameo vase
Circa 1885, etched banner and GEM./CAMEO mark
The oviform body of smokey amber tint, carved in white relief with a Roman god in a chariot drawn by two horses amongst clouds, the reverse with a geometric flowerhead radiating anthemion, above a greek key-pattern band reserved with panels of flowerheads, the lower part with gadrooning and stiff leaves, the shoulder with an egg and dart-pattern band, the cylindrical neck carved with a band of leaves between bands of flowerheads (a few minor scratches)
