Maker's mark possibly that of Fa. P. Mansvelt & Zoon, Amsterdam, circa 1871
The barrel formed of honey-coloured and ebonized wood, six plain silver bands, the side fitted with plain silver scroll tap with loose silver funnel, detachable cockerel-shaped silver finial, the centre set with lozenge-shaped plaque, inscribed 'Ter gedachtenis aan het Zilveren Feest van A. de Haan en M. de Haan, 1846 8 Octr. 1871', on a turned two-colour wooden stand

Lot Essay

Adriaan de Haan (1826-1891) founded in circa 1850 the Stoomkistenmakerij en Kuiperij (steambarrel firm and coopery) A. de Haan & Zoon, on the Elandsgracht 74 in Amsterdam.
Adriaan de Haan married Johanna Magdalena Haages in 1846. The present lot was presented to them in honor of their 25th wedding anniversary in 1871.
The company moved in 1891 to Beltweg 190, where they were active until the early seventies of the 20th century.
