A Dutch silver plaquette medal
Apparently unsigned, The Netherlands, circa 1666, also struck with later Dutch duty mark
Circular, the obverse with the portrait of Admiral Michiel Adriaensz. de Ruyter, bust length, bareheaded and turned three quarters to the right, Triton and Nereid above holding a naval crown, flanked behind by lobate ornament and trophies of arms, a scrolling band beneath inscribed: M.A.D. DE RUYTER LUYT ADMIRAAL GEN. and the rim with DE RUYTER DIE DEN BRIT SYN MOET GETEUGELT HEEFT, ALDUS DOOR MULLERS HANT INT GOUT EN SILUER LEEFT. Ao MDCLXVI DEN XIIII JUNY., the reverse with the sea-battle between the Dutch and English navy, the foreground with an english ship sinking, the rim inscribed: HIER STRYCKT HET BRITISCH GEWELT VOOR NEDERLANT DE VLAGH, DE SEE HEEFT NOIT GEWAEGHT VAN ZULK EEN ZWAEREN SLAG, later attached ring
