Each folio with four lines of black nasta'liq inscribed below katib-e hazrat-e sultani against a ground of gold and polychrome floral meander within borders of gul-o bulbul on pink ground, framed and glazed

Lot Essay

The scribe who signs himself katib-e hazrat-e soltani may be Muhammad Husayn Shirazi who was still alive in 1316/1898-9. The poem on the left is in praise of the King, and Nasir al-Din Shah was fond of his work, much of which is still in the Gulistan Palace Library.
