A QAJAR ENGRAVED COPPER FOOTED BASIN
Iran, dated Shawwal AH 1244 April-May 1829 AD
Of wide rounded form with everted lip on trumpet foot, the exterior engraved with a broad band of interlaced arabesques containing floral motifs, a band of portrait roundels alternating with inscription cartouches below the rim, minor floral bands above and below, traces of corrosion on interior, exterior lacquered

Lot Essay

The inscription cartouches contain the Call to God to bless the Fourteen Innocents. The final cartouche contains the date Shawwal 1244 and the roundel following it contains the name Muhammad 'Ali, from its positioning presumably that of the maker.
