A medical encyclopaedia, Persian manuscript on paper, 194ff. with 27ll. of very elegant black nasta'liq, titles in red, in five sections, each section with illuminated title folio (one lacking), each section dated, execept the last, first colophon on f.40b dated 25 Dhu'l Qa'ada 989, final colophon on f.149a dated 4 Muharram 990, some worm damage, generally good condition, later red morocco tooled binding

Lot Essay

This is a very attractive copy of Jurjani's famous work written in a pleasing hand with some fine illumination. The numerous colophons give an interesting insight into the length of time it took for a professional scribe to complete such a work. Although the final section lacks a date, the whole manuscript appears to have been completed in a little under two months.
