A MEDALLION USHAK CARPET
West Anatolia, early 17th century
The brick-red ground with overall blue feathery palmette vine around a flaming royal blue ogival medallion containing interlaced floral sprays and arabesques, the shaped pendant above and below containing similar motifs, the end of a further medallion above and below, flanked on each side by paired shaped rich green medallions with pendants containing radiating paired interlaced arabesques, in a shaded sea-green palmette and leafy vine border between shaded pale lemon-yellow and rust-red angular vine minor stripes, large areas of repiling and reweaving, much of outer stripe selvages rebound
