A MEDALLION USHAK CARPET FRAGMENT
West Anatolia, circa 1750
The brick-red field with blue feathery palmette vine around a flaming shaded blue Ogival medallion containing interlaced floral sprays and arabesques around a rust-red quaterfoil centrepiece with similar arabesques, a part pendant on all four sides, the brick-red border with bold palmettes, flowerheads and feathery leaves, with a narrow shaded blue angular flowering vine outer stripe between zigzag minor stripes, assembled from various sections of the same carpet with crude repairs and joins, areas of wear, selvages on all four sides fraying in parts, one or two small holes at outer border at one end
