A SILK AND METAL-THREAD ZAREH PENYAMIN KOUM KAPI PRAYER RUG
Istanbul, Turkey, circa 1920
Of "Sultan's head" design, the rust-red field with fine overall palmette and flowering vine with cloudbands surrounding an inscription cartouche at one end, the sage-green shouldered mihrab arch with flowering vine issuing from stylised vases, in a golden yellow border containing metal-thread inscription panels on both sides with delicate flowering tendrils between ivory floral meander stripe and reciprocal silk and metal-thread skittle-pattern outer stripe, typical signature in base of palmette, kilim strip at each end, excellent condition throughout
