South Persia, Dated AH 1319/1901-2 AD
The charcoal-black field with rows of palmettes, floral sprays and rosettes, in an ivory border of rosettes between charcoal-black and golden yellow floral meander and reciprocal skittle-pattern minor stripes, date and inscription cartouche at one end, original kilim strip and fringes at both ends, good pile throughout

Lot Essay

The inscription cartouche reads: "Nur 'Ali Shah Mubarak Bad 1319"

Nur 'Ali Shah was a young dervish of exceptional beauty who is frequently depicted in Qajar art, both in paintings and also on Kirman carpets and rugs dating from the late nineteenth century.
