North China, circa 1900
The burnt-orange field with stylised floral sprays surrounding a golden yellow roundel with an imperial five-clawed dragon protecting a flaming pearl, the golden yellow spandrels similar, in a golden yellow border of stylised chrysanthemum with the Eight Buddhist Emblems between ivory scrolling vine and plain indigo stripes, a five-character inscription at one end, good pile throughout, original kilim strips at both ends, both knotted fringes with partial losses, overall good condition
