Born in Boulogne in June 1876, d'Illiers studied under the Comte de Ruillé and G. Busson. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais from 1899, specialising in animal groups and particularly horses. His approach was versatile and he enjoyed as much success with race-horses as he did with plough-horses and hunting groups.
