A VERY FINE SWISS PEARL AND TURQUOISE-SET VARI-COLORED GOLD SINGING-BIRD BOX*
The movement with maker's mark of Frères Rochat, Geneva, circa 1815
Rectangular, of green, pink, and yellow gold, the oval cover and borders finely chiselled with roses, leaves, and grapevine, the cover surround set with split pearls, the outer border and oval cover set with cabochon turquoises, all against velvet-matted ground, surrounding engine-turned panels, the back with hinged key compartment, the oval cover opening to a trellis-engraved field with blued-steel screws and a hatch for the bird; the going-barrel jeweled movement playing two folk songs and two birdsongs, the movement marked FR in oval punch and numbered 291
