Each inverted pear-shaped, the lion's paw feet with acanthus leaf joins, the fluted lower body with reeded and shell-capped handles with lion's head joins, the gadrooned detachable rim with liner and lead liner, the side engraved with a coat-of-arms and motto and the collar with two crests, each marked on base, collar and liner

Lot Essay

The arms are those of George Hay Dawkins-Pennant of Penryhn Castle, Wales (d. 1840).

Penryhn Castle, a neo-Norman style castle with over 300 rooms, was created by the architect Thomas Hopper between 1821-35 for the sugar and slate magnate George Hay Dawkins-Pennant.
