The Mechanical Theatre at Hellbrun near Salzburg is one of the few surviving water-driven automata grottos made fashionable during the 18th Century by, amongst others, Salomon de Caus. Built between 1748 - 1750 by Lorenz Rosenegger as the centre-piece of the new aquatic gardens, it features over two hundred and fifty carved figures in a Baroque town setting.
