Two blue and white bowls
Late 17th/early 18th Century
Comprising a large bowl painted to the exterior with shaped panels of flowering peony on rockwork and mountainous river landscapes, the interior painted to the centre with peony issuing from rockwork and a butterfly, the rim with shaped cartouches enclosing peony and symbols on a trellis-pattern border, bodycrack, 29.4 cm. diam.; and a Japanese Arita bowl, painted to the exterior and interior roundel with sprays of peony and foliage among birds perched on rockwork and birds and insects in flight above, rim chip, 19.8 cm. diam.
