A 'calcutta tiger hunt' plate
Circa 1760
Finely enamelled and gilt with European hunters holding spears and rifles and their hounds attacking a saber-toothed tiger on a riverbank, the smoke from their guns partially obscurring their prey and a caped figure on a porch at the side, a landscape with a European town in the background, below the rim cartouches enclosing puce vignettes of Western landscapes and a famille rose bird reserved on a gilt floral ground
