2 volumes in one, 4o (198 x 154 mm). Titles printed in red and black, 102 engraved plates (8 folding). Contemporary sprinkled calf spine elaborately gilt (spine slightly dried and rubbed). Provenance: Dr. Brunswick (ownership inscription dated 1793); Classenske Bogsamling (early ink stamp on title); purchased from Quaritch, 1964.

FIRST COLLECTED EDITION. On his death in 1607, Alpini was succeded as director of the botanical garden in Padua, by Johann Vesling, who collected Alpini's writing, including previously unpublished material for the present edition. Cf. Hunt 164; Nissen BBI 20; not in Nissen ZBI; Pritzel 113.
