Lot Essay

This gold-toned printing-out print is believed to have been made between 1898 and 1901. The negative number 70 on the recto is consistent with Curtis' early numbering system from this period. Because printing-out paper is typically single weight, prints from this period are often badly damaged. This print, however, still in the exhibition frame from the first annual San Francisco Photographic Salon in 1901, has been well preserved.

Prints from this period are considered rare.
