Lot Essay

This group was part of a suite of four hundred dye-transfer prints, produced by Light Gallery in 1979 in conjunction with the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, Arizona. Although these works were intended for individual purchase, the present owner asked Tennyson Schad, Light's founder, to select a representative group to highlight Callahan's use of color photography. Consisting of street scenes, abstractions and his well known images of Providence, Rhode Island, this group demonstrates Callahan's mastery of medium.
