Lot Essay

Weston traveled in New Mexico in June of 1933 with Willard Van Dyke and Sonya, and spent a short time in Elizabethtown ("E" Town). Weston was exhiliarated by the landscape. He wrote in his Daybooks "...I knew I could go back, - it is but a day's journey. But when? It must be soon, for only at this time of year is the light at its best." (The Daybooks of Edward Weston, II California, July 23, 1933, p. 275). The negative number of this print is 34A and according to his diary there were 22 prints made of this image.
