A MEISSEN SEA-GREEN GROUND ECUELLE, COVER AND STAND
Circa 1740, blue crossed swords marks, Pressnummer 6 to the ecuelle, 22 to the stand
The domed cover with applied rose finial, the hemispheric bowl applied with ribbon-tied bouquets as handles, the blossoms separating to each side as terminals, painted on both sides with Occidental and Oriental merchants in discussion at the quayside as ships are loaded and with figures in landscapes near Dresden, each reserved on the sea-green ground within oblong ogival lobed panels edged in gilt and chocolate brown, the stand with one quayside scene and two European landscapes, each reserved within elaborate gilt ombrierte cartouches on the white ground further decorated with scattered deutsche Blumen, the underside sea-green, gilt line rims
