Lot Essay

Dit schilderij laat zien hoe de Prins Hendrikkade er omstreeks 1918-1920 uitzag. Nadat het vrije uitzicht over het IJ verleden tijd was door de bouw van het Centraal Station (geopend 1889), waren hier nog steeds verschillende veerdiensten gevestigd. Op het gedeelte dat Tinus de Jongh hier schilderde vond men veerdiensten naar o.a. Deventer, Kampen en Zutphen. Het meest in het oog springende bouwwerk is de hoge Sint Nicolaaskerk, gebouwd in de jaren 1885- 1887 door A.C. Bleys in een combinatie van neo-stijlen.
