A pair of commemorative cufflinks,

Details
A pair of commemorative cufflinks,
of 18ct gold oval plate and chain link design, engraved Queen Mary 15-4-36, Birmingham 1909.

The vendor's grandfather, Sir Arthur Matthews, was involved in the design and building of the ocean liner the Royal Mail Steamer Queen Mary.
Built by John Brown & Company Ltd. of Clydebank for Cunard Line, the RMS Queen Mary was involved in offical speed trials in the Irish Sea off the Isle of Arran between 15th and 19th April 1936. The vendor assumes that the cufflinks were presented to those involved in the trials.
