Lot Essay

The present lot was executed during one of the artists frequent visits to Italy. In 1881 he became a member of the Italian artist society Gli Acquerellisti with whom he exhibited in 1882, the year in which the present lot was painted. It is likely that the girl portrayed here is Italian.
