Lot Essay

In addition to the maker's mark of Robert Hennell, this ewer features another mark of cross-hatched arrows within an octagonal punch. This mark is believed to signify silver supplied by Hennell, a manufacturer to the trade, exclusively to the prominent London firm of Hancocks & Co. Hancocks built a reputation as one of the finest silver and jewelry retailers of the 19th century.
