A VICTORIAN SILVER FIGURE OF THE ARCHANGEL MICHAEL
1855, mark of Barnard Brothers, London
Formed as a fully modeled figure of the Archangel Michael vanquishing the devil in the form of a toad, the crowned figure of St. Michael with outstretching wings, suit of mail and shield, his spear piercing the toad, set on a triangular rockwork plinth applied with Mercury masks, the sides inset with marble panels, marked on skirt, together with a later wood and marble triangular plinth
The statue 40 in. (101.6 cm.) high; the stand 39 in. (99 cm.) high
