A GRAECO-EGYPTIAN HAEMATITE MAGICAL INTAGLIO WITH A WINGED GENIUS
2ND-3RD CENTURY A.D.
Cut with the figure of a winged Genius, the draped figure with horizontal wings, holding a long sceptre in each hand, with legs in the form of two curled lion-headed serpents wearing radiate crowns, below a minute horizontal figure within the snake Ouroboros, the entire field filled with minute symbols, the reverse with a figure riding a lion to the left, the latter standing on a horizontal naked figure, behind stands a draped female figure, infront the Abraxas deity, various minute symbols and Greek letters in the field, 1.5 x 1.1 cm., 1.2 cm. across inner hoop; and a similar magical gem of Harpocrates on a goose, wearing sun disk, holding flail with right index finger to his mouth, the goose stands on a crocodile, two circular bands of Greek, the reverse with nine lines of Greek, chipped, 2nd-3rd Century A.D., 1.9 x 1.4 cm., 1.8 cm. across inner hoop, both in later swivel ring settings (2)
