A WESTERN ASIATIC GOLD PENDANT EARRING
CIRCA FIRST HALF OF 1ST MILLENNIUM B.C.
The tapering hoop hung with large rigid acorn-shaped pendant, the central body encircled by ten short columns each composed of three spheres, the base with five granulated triangles with central granulated circle, 1 1/8 in. (2.8 cm.) long; a pair of Roman gold and pearl earrings, each ear wire hoop mounted with domed shield with pendant cylinder below with seed pearl bead terminal, one pearl missing; another small pair of gold hoop earrings, each with domed shield with central granule, all 2nd-3rd Century A.D.; a pair of Parthian gold earrings, each with navicella-shaped hoop decorated with gold spheres, with hinge mechanism, circa 2nd Century B.C./A.D.; and a pair of North Persian sheet gold earrings, the narrow ear wires broadening to a flat crescent, circa late 2nd/early 1st millennium B.C., all 1 in. (2.5 cm.) long max. (9)
