A NABATAEAN POTTERY CUP

The finely potted red-orange clay conical cup with outward-flared sides and broad and flat everted rim, the ornamental motifs painted in reddish-brown slip consisting of spiralling dotted tendrils on the rim, similar motifs around the sides arranged vertically and interspersed with lattice-patterns, 2 5/8 in. (6.6 cm.) high; another spherical-shaped cup, with everted rim and one small ring handle, on small circular foot, traces of slip decoration, 3 7/8 in. (9.8 cm.) high; a footed bowl, the interior with traces of leaf and tendril ornament, 4in. (10cm.) diam. max; and six fragments of thin-walled painted vessels, 3 3/8in. (8.5 cm.) long max., all 1st Century B.C./A.D.; an Eastern Mediterranean pottery four-wicked lamp, the shallow circular dish with the rim folded over in four places, the spouts thus formed between the square sides to hold a wick, 2nd millennium B.C., 4½ in. (11.4 cm.) square approx.; a Syrian pale buff wheel-made jug, the body of squat bi-conical form, a flared ridged neck and single vertical handle, the shoulder decorated with three incised leaf-like motifs, repaired, circa 5th-7th Century A.D., 5¼ in. (13.4 cm.) high; a Persian turquoise glazed pottery shallow bowl on flattened foot, repaired, 5 in. (12.7 cm.) diam.; another shallow dish similar; and a plain pottery dish with central spike, 3 7/8 in. (9.8 cm.) diam. max., all circa 1st Century B.C./2nd Century A.D. (14)
