Details
FINE AND RARE WINES FROM THE PRIVATE CELLAR OF A GREAT CONNOISSEUR, INCLUDING FIRST-GROWTHS FROM THE GREAT VINTAGES OF 1945, 1955, 1961, 1966 AND 1982, ALSO COMPRISING RARE ROMANEE-CONTI OF THE MARVELLOUS 1969 VINTAGE AS WELL AS MANY OTHER DRC WINES
The following lots, 1-437, have been recently removed from an excellent purpose-built private cellar on the Continent. Constant temperature of 12C and humidity have been strictly controlled in the cellar throughout an extended period of ownership and every bottle was stored with meticulous care by the owner, a passionate collector of both art and wines and a long-standing client of the Wine Department at Christie's. His principal interests were well reflected by the contents of the cellar - fine and classic Bordeaux, overwhelmingly from first-growth and other leading Chateaux, mostly of excellent vintages (1874-1998) white Bordeaux including d'Yquem (1869-1995) finest red Burgundy including a particularly wide selection of wines from Domaine de la Romanee-Conti (1928-1995) and excellent white Burgundy from Domaines such as Leflaive, Comte Lafon, Thenard, Louis Latour and Ramonet and rarest Montrachet, again from Domaine de la Romanee-Conti (1982-1997). Also represented are quality wines from Rhone, Loire, Alsace, Italy and Spain. Format size is a further feature of this collection with many rare magnums on offer, plus double-magnums, jeroboams and imperiales plus a rare 27 litre bottle of Castillio Ygay 1989.
All the wines were inspected, checked, packed and removed by Christie's Wine Department staff and are now lying in Gloucestershire at Christie's (Octavian).
