GREENOCK CREEK

Established by Michael and Annabelle Waugh in 1975 in Seppeltsfield on the edge of the Barossa Valley and have cult wine guru Chris Ringland as a consultant. Yields are are ridiculously low, around one and half to two tonnes per acre. The winemaking follows a similar pattern with everything done on a small scale and with great enthusiasm. The wines speak for themselves, a solid range from a variety of vineyards this is one place that anyone making the trip to Australia should not miss. Offered here is the Apricot Block Shiraz from the great 1998 vintage and the micro production first vintage of the two Roenfeldt Road releases, Cabernet and Shiraz.

Greenock Creek Roennfeldt Road Cabernet Sauvignon--Vintage 1995
Barossa Valley
"The 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon Roennfeldt Road is 100 Cabernet Sauvignon from 50-year old vines. The wine was aged three years in new French oak. It has soaked up the wood beautifully. This is an unctuous, blockbuster, opaque, purple-colored wine with a classic nose of charcoal, black currants, cedar, mineral, and licorice. The wine has phenomenal intensity, great purity, a huge, ripe, yet balanced attack, a multilayered mid-palate, and an awesome finish. The mid-palate seems to have layers of fruit that just cascade over the palate with no hard edges. This is a terrific classic that can be approached now but ideally needs 3-4 years of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2025." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, Issue 135
