Hockney refined these studies in the published versions, omitting some of the details seen in these etchings. For example, in 'The Arrival' (lot 74) the artist explicitly identifies himself as the rake, with a suitcase monogrammed 'DH', a detail which is deleted from the larger published version. David Hockney's Studio has suggested that no more than two impressions were printed from each plate, making these extremely rare early examples of Hockney's graphic art.
