The wooden case has hook catches and a printed maker's label: The Original Collection of Specimen of the Materia Medica of the British Pharmacopaedia for Medical and Pharmaceutical Students - Southall Bros & Barclay, Ltd. Birmingham. The case contains approximately two-hundred and nine specimens, contained in numbered cardboard boxes. The case is accompanied by a booklet entitled: Key to Southalls' Materia Medica Collections, listing all the specimens with their Latin and English name and other details. Also included is a book by E.W. Mann, entitled Southalls' Organic Materia Medica, J&A Churchill, London (1915), 390pp.
